Chernobyl Centre of Nuclear Safety Problems, Radioactive Waste and Radio-Ecology was created on 26 April, 1996 by the Decree of the President of Ukraine as a scientific-technical organisation, within the jurisdiction to Ukrainian Ministry, whose main objective
is support, development and increase of efficiency of the international scientific-technical activity in the field of nuclear and radiation safety and radio-ecology.
Main directions of scientific-technical and engineering activity, which are being developed on the basis of ICC, are:
nuclear and radiation safety
physical protection
decommissioning of nuclear facilities
training in case of emergency response
radio-ecology researches.
The structure of Chernobyl centre includes Laboratory of Engineering Developments and Technologies (LEDT), International Radio-Ecological Laboratory (IRL), Kyiv department/ Laboratory of Safety Analysis and Centre of Projects Monitoring (Kyiv).
More than 100 people work for Chernobyl centre at the moment, 71% of whom have high education, 10% have scientific degree, 30% is youth of the age under 30.
Main projects, which realized by ICC in Slavutych, are the following:
