Slavutych Centre for Community Development

Aim:

Increase social and economic activity of Slavutych residents in the process of making and implementing the decisions related to Slavutych social infrastructure development, new jobs creation, social and economic living level of population improvement.

Objectives:

• Develop and promote civil initiatives in local self-government authorities.

• Disseminate the idea of equal rights for women and men.

• Perform research activities with the objective to study priority needs of Slavutych town and Slavutych region residents.

• Perform social and psychological research, training workshops, and individual consulting on social, psychological and legal issues.

The Community Development Centre was established in 2002, following unification of the Social and Psychological Centre staff and personnel of other establishments in the town into a public organization. The Community Development Centre is a non-governmental organization, with 22 members.

90% of the members have great experience in working in the international projects, providing various types of consultant services, conducting social and psychological research, delivering workshops and trainings, organizing business games and focus-groups.

Almost all members of the organization have higher education and qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Public Relations, Law, Finance, etc. Many members of the Centre obtained additional professional training within the framework of the UNESCO-Chornobyl Program.

The Community Development Centre has computer, copying machine, fax, and printer.

Currently, the Centre is implementing the project for social mobilization of the people, who suffered from the accident at the Chornobyl NPP. Activities are performed within the Slavutych region. Five centres of population are involved in the project. People started to re-build social infrastructure in their villages. Training workshops and business games related to local initiatives implementation are delivered there, leaders are identified, social and economic plans for local development are produced. The Client is UNO Representative Office in Ukraine.

The Centre’s members publish their articles and scientific works in various guidance books, magazines, and newspapers.
